Terei and fellow schoolteacher Tangaroa were part of a delegation from Kiribati to the Bali Climate Change conference in 2007. Terei teaches geography to 14 & 15 year olds from an environmental and social point of view focusing on the Kiribati case study. Her speech at Bali was to explain problems in relation to climate change; Kiribati is low-lying just 2 meters above sea level, there is constant coastal erosion, sea level rise directly affecting vegetation as well as infiltrating the fresh water lens, and the ever-increasing temperatures. She says most students understand the impact of climate change on their lives but don't know how to solve the problems, they ask, 'what of the future’.
