Nanumea week is celebrated annually, the outer-islanders from Nanumea living on Funafuti get together for games dancing speeches and church keeping relatives in touch with each other on the capital where since Independence in 1978 people from all the 8 eight outer-islands have migrated mainly for Government jobs and cash income. The population of the captial island has increased 10 fold.
