A burnt road sign on the Healesville - Kinglake highway after the Black Saturday fires swept through with unprecedented force. Record temperatures, high winds and prolonged drought combined to ignite bushfires that devastated vast areas of Victoria totalling 450,000 hectares and destroying more than 2000 homes and displacing 7500 people.
