The Goulburn River

The Goulburn River is one of Victoria's very important water courses and one of many charted that will flow with any degree of certainty. The Brumby State Government solution to the City of Melbourne's water problems is to divert farmer's irrigation water supply from the Goulburn and pipe it to Melbourne's Sugarloaf Reservoir. This project is fraught with controversy and a major component in Australia's mounting water wars. Regarding water supply the State could realistically sustain a population of about 1.5 million it is currently about 5 million,
