Tapa made from the mulched bark of the mulberry tree is a highly valued item all over the Pacific, in some respects a form of currency. People from the villages and estates of Tonga have gifted tapa and such items to the Royal family in respect of the death of the king. Women are outside the Royal Palace preparing to spread the tapa over the road for the funeral cortege to pass over on the way from the Palace to Mala'e Kula, the Royal tombs.
