Kiribati - Lagoon

Copyright © Jocelyn Carlin 2001
Young men collect shellfish from the lagoon of the capital atoll island of Tarawa, Kiribati. Traditionally they are eaten raw despite this at times being one of the most polluted bodies of water globally due to leaching from rubbish tips, shipping and poor santiary systems .
