Nauru _ Phosphate

Copyright © Jocelyn Carlin 2001
Inside the Nauru Phosphate Company (NPC) factory situated on the narrow strip of low-lying coastal land close to the main settlement housing, schools and the Government centre on the island of Nauru. For 100 years the raw material has been processed for export but is now almost depleted. Reviving the phosphate industry with secondary mining is the only possibility of rescuing the cash strapped Nauruan economy.
